Reasons to Enter the 20th Annual Scovie Awards Competition

This is part of a series of Reasons to Enter the 20th Annual Scovie Awards Competition.

Reason #1—Category Versatility!

We have four different divisions in the Scovie Awards with a total of 125 different categories to enter.

Division I: Consumer-Ready Products
Division II: Fiery Foods Cook-It-Up Contest
Division III: Barbecue Products Tasting
Division IV: Marketing and Advertising

In many of the divisions, your product may be entered into more than one category. For example, your hot sauce might be entered into the “Habanero,” “Unique,” and “World Beat” Categories if all three are applicable.

We have a PDF of all categories in all divisions to help you plan out your entries. Download it here.

So, in addition to your single product in one category, consider entering it in other categories, too. This is why we have discounts for multiple entries: Enter 4, pay for 3 and enter 7, pay for 5. If you plan on entering more than seven products and/or categories, please call Emily for additional discounts, 505-873-8680.

Reason #2—Promote Your Winning Products with Statistics!

After the judging is over, you have the option to purchase Scovie Analysis Reports on each product you entered in each category. They cost $50. Each report gives you details to help promote your products to the media, buyers, and through your website. Manufacturers should consider these not only if they win, but if they did not place as well as you anticipated. Such reports can help you improve your product(s).

Here are the details you receive (from an Analysis Report):

Company: Your Company Name
Product: Your Entered Product
As judged in the: Category You Entered
Product placed: 6th out of 15 entries in the category (or however the product placed).
Evaluation of Judging Sheets: Averages of all scores in all categories.

Perfect Score would be 50 points.
Your Total Overall Score using whole numbers in each area: 34.75
High Score –39
Low Score – 28
Total Judges –8
Comments from judges: When possible, we give you the actual, unedited comments from the judges.

Think of this information as ammunition to help you better promote your win(s)!

Reason #3—Large Banners To Better Promote Your Winners!

Other food tasting contests give winners some form of small trophies. This is all well and good for you personally, but the trophies do not advertise your products during shows, tastings, or other events. This is because the type on your trophy is very small. Our first place winners receive banners measuring 2 feet by 3 feet, and second and third place winners measuring 1 foot by 2 feet. By hanging these banners in your booth or table at events, you have a mini-billboard that promotes and advertises your winning products to potential wholesale and retail buyers. We have discounts for multiple entries: Enter 4, pay for 3 and enter 7, pay for 5. If you plan on entering more than seven products and/or categories, please call Emily for additional discounts, 505-873-8680.

Reason #4—Give the Media Something to Report About!

When I go on camera during the National Fiery Foods and Barbecue Show, the first question I’m always asked is: “What’s new at the show this year, Dave?” That’s the way the media thinks, and I can’t really answer, “Nothing.” So in my mind, I always have a few new things at the show to talk about. Likewise, if you’re a Scovie winner promoting your products in a press release or an interview, the more new things you have to talk about, the better. Here some things to provide to the media.
—Professionally-shot product images.
—An image of your winning banner.
—All details about your winning product, like: We beat out fourteen other products to win first place in our category. Even if you placed third, you can spin it like this: We are in the top three of all 20 products entered into this category, and that’s quite an achievement.
